What You Need to Know About the 2025 UCSF Community Climate Survey
The 2025 Community Climate Survey is launching this week.
The survey measures the experiences of UCSF community members to help improve the working and learning environment. It is the only assessment that gathers input from everyone at UCSF and UCSF Health – faculty, staff, students, postdocs and residents.
Administered every three years, the Community Climate Survey is confidential and no identifying information will be connected to responses.
“We want to create an inclusive and supportive environment that provides a culture of belonging for all our faculty, staff, and learners,” said Renee Navarro, MD, PharmD, vice chancellor, UCSF Diversity and Outreach.
“Your feedback helps us implement action plans to strengthen our organization and improve our institutional climate, part of our ongoing effort to help build a more inclusive UCSF for all.”
Driving change
Results help UCSF improve its approach to working, living and learning, with a focus on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
UCSF has embraced several initiatives and campaigns based on community feedback and previous surveys, like hiring UCSF’s inaugural assistant vice chancellor of climate and belonging, launching the UCSF Anti-Racism Initiative, implementing the new University of California Anti-Discrimination Policy and creating UCSF’s first CARE Advocate for Racial Justice role, among other responsive strategies. The university has also started faculty and staff Salary Equity Reviews, school-based inclusive curriculum for learners and an Advancing Excellence in Staff Recruitment program.
Anonymous and confidential feedback
Emma White Research is conducting the Community Climate Survey on behalf of UCSF, part of a process designed to collect anonymous and confidential feedback using data aggregated and disaggregated to analyze trends and patterns.
The UCSF Community Climate Survey is different from the Staff Engagement Survey administered by Gallup. UCSF leaders use the results of both surveys to identify common themes and set priorities to develop a coordinated, holistic action plan to make UCSF a better place to work and learn.
“At UCSF, it is critical everyone feels valued, heard and respected,” said Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS. “Building our culture, strategies and initiatives through community feedback will help us enhance the working and learning experience for everyone at UCSF for years to come.”
Everyone in the UCSF is encouraged to take the survey. It can be accessed through an email from “Emma White, UCSF Community Climate Survey” announcing the launch of the survey on Wednesday, Jan. 8 or by going directly to this Qualtrics survey and plugging in your UCSF email address.
