Ten years ago, Chancellor Sam Hawgood made the case UC San Francisco was at an important inflection point in its history during his inaugural State of the University address.

Later this month, Hawgood, MBBS, will again use his annual speech to mark an important occasion as he reflects on the last decade and looks forward to the future in the hour-long presentation on Thursday, November 21 at noon

Tune in live or watch the address afterward at UCSF.edu.

“We will look back at some of the major milestones we have achieved together in service to our public mission,” Hawgood said of the address. “We will also look forward to what the future may hold.”

Hawgood’s 10 years of service at the helm of UCSF has included growth, innovation, partnerships and disruption – all topics he’ll cover in his remarks.

3 Things You’ll Hear

  1. The Chancellor’s remarks will include the four goals for UCSF that he established in 2019 and build on last year’s State of the University address, which focused on the responsible use of artificial intelligence across UCSF’s mission areas.

  2. The Chancellor plans to shine a light on the changes instituted at UCSF in response to social and cultural shifts over the last 10 years, including several diversity initiatives, the University’s response to and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and actions to address health inequities and disparities.

  3. To close the program, a short video will feature five future leaders representing all of UCSF’s professional schools. These exceptional individuals will describe their work to address the challenges and opportunities across their chosen fields in health and science.

Now a member of the UCSF community for more than four decades, Hawgood was appointed UCSF’s 10th chancellor by the UC Board of Regents in 2014.
