More than 30 Researchers Among Most Influential
Thirty-eight UC San Francisco researchers rank in the top 1 percent for impact in their fields, according to a new analysis of research citations by science and intellectual property company Clarivate.
The 2022 Highly Cited Researchers list spotlights scholars whose published articles have been cited most by fellow researchers in their fields over the past 10 years. Those on the list have demonstrated significant and broad influence, reflected in their publication of multiple highly cited papers, according to the Clarivate analysis. UCSF scholars are among the most highly cited researchers in biology and biochemistry, clinical medicine, genetics, immunology, molecular biology, neuroscience and behavior, and pharmacology and toxicology.
“The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers who are having a significant impact on the research community as evidenced by the rate at which their work is being cited by their peers,” said David Pendlebury, head of research analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate. “These individuals are helping to transform human ingenuity into our world’s greatest breakthroughs – and it is an honor to celebrate their achievements.”
The 2022 rankings include 51 organizations – universities, government agencies and other entities – that are home to 26 or more Highly Cited Researchers. UCSF tied for 19, along with Cornell University and Washington University in St. Louis.
The Highly Cited list includes 6,938 individuals from 70 countries/regions. About 83 percent come from just 10 countries/regions, including 38 percent from the U.S. and 16 percent from mainland China.
