UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals Shine Among Finest in 9 Specialties in 2017-18 Rankings
Best in Bay Area in 6 Practices, According to U.S. News & World Report
UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, with campuses in San Francisco and Oakland, rank among the country’s best in nine specialties, according to U.S. News & World Report’s survey of 187 pediatric hospitals nationwide.
The two hospitals, which affiliated in January 2014, rank best in the Bay Area in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedics, according to the magazine, which released the results of its report on June 27, 2017.
The 2017-18 results mark the 11th year of the pediatric rankings report, which serve as a guide of hospitals that excel in treating the sickest children.
“We are delighted that once again UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals are among those highly acclaimed hospitals listed by U.S. News,” said Mark Laret, president and chief executive officer of UCSF Health. “Validations such as these rankings are a testament to the tremendous caliber of the physicians, nurses, technicians and other health care providers and staff who are driven each day to provide the best care possible to the children and families they serve,” he said.
“I want to congratulate our physicians, the rest of our clinical team and staff for their commitment to expert and compassionate care of our patients,” said UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals President Michael Anderson, MD. “These rankings reflect the strength of our combined children’s hospitals in Oakland and San Francisco, and the world-class research that supports our programs and services.”
The rankings reflect clinical outcome, such as patient survival, infection rates and complications; the level and quality of hospital resources related to patient care, such as staffing, technology and special services; delivery of health care, such as programs that prevent infection and adherence to best practices; and expert opinion among pediatric specialists.
The rankings highlight U.S. News’ top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
Among the 187 hospitals evaluated, 81 were ranked among the top 50 in at least one specialty.
