Neurologist Bruce Miller Discusses Alzheimer's, FTD on Charlie Rose Show

Bruce Miller, MD, a behavioral neurologist and director of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, participated in a roundtable discussion on Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia on the "Charlie Rose Show," which aired on Feb. 24, 2012.

The episode, fourth in Rose’s Brain Series II, included Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, MD, of Columbia University, Marc Tessier-Lavigne, PhD, formerly of UCSF and now of Rockefeller University, and Alison Goate, PhD, and David Holtzman, MD, of Washington University in St. Louis.

“We have [ ] incredibly powerful biological approaches that we think are poised to make a difference for our society,” said Miller. But to translate these discoveries to new treatments, he said, more federal funding is needed.

Since the program was taped, President Obama announced plans to devote an extra $50 million to dementia research, on top of the $450 million a year it currently spends.
