Media Advisory: UCSF Hosts Free Children's Dental Screening at Sunday Streets
WHAT: UCSF, in partnership with the California State Assembly and San Francisco Board of Supervisors, will offer free children’s dental screenings in conjunction with the Bayview Opera House Sunday Streets Family Health and Wellness Fair. UCSF dental school residents will perform the screenings and apply fluoride varnishes to prevent cavities.
Early detection is key to diagnosing potential tooth decay, which remains one of the most common diseases of childhood – five times as common as asthma. By age 17, more than 7 percent of children have lost a permanent tooth to decay.
No appointment is necessary and screenings will take approximately 15 minutes. Oral health education and Denti-Cal advisors will be onsite.
Additional Sunday Streets activities will include mural painting, dance lessons, free bike rentals and a bookmobile. For more information on Bayview Opera House Sunday Streets, see: http://www.sundaystreetssf.com/.
