Media Advisory: UCSF Doctors to Participate in Head-Shaving Cancer Fundraiser
WHAT: In a bold demonstration of support for children fighting cancer, several UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital doctors and staff will have their heads shaved bald at a special event to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research. Funds raised will go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a nonprofit organization that hosts worldwide events where volunteers collect pledges and shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer, who often lose their hair during chemotherapy. Since 2007, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation has given nearly $770,000 to support UCSF’s clinical and basic cancer research programs.
The event is open to the public and will include food, drinks and a raffle. A $10 donation will buy the right to cut off a lock of hair from the shavee of your choice, while the highest bidder will earn the right to have the person shaved bald on their behalf.
