Video Captures Excitement of Groundbreaking for UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay

A new video captures the excitement of recent groundbreaking festivities for UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay.
The events were held especially to thank everyone who has contributed to the project over the past decade.
At a ceremony on Oct. 26, UCSF broke ground on a state-of-the-art and sustainable medical center at Mission Bay – a 289-bed, 878,000 square-foot complex that promises to transform care for women, children and cancer patients when it opens in 2014.

More than 200 community members, elected officials, donors and UCSF leaders, faculty and staff and patients celebrated the milestone, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, UCSF Medical Center CEO Mark Laret, UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH, and Carlos Garcia, superintendent of San Francisco Unified School District. They are all featured in the video.
UCSF also hosted a community celebration for faculty, staff, students and trainees as well as neighbors on Oct. 27. That family-friendly event drew scores of visitors to UCSF Mission Bay, where participants enjoyed food, entertainment, gardening and games.
