AIDS Health Project Hosts Benefit Art Auction on September 24
The UCSF AIDS Health Project is hosting its annual “Art for AIDS” auction featuring 160 pieces of gallery quality artwork and reception on Friday, Sept. 24 at the San Francisco Design Center.
This year, Art for AIDS is excited to present the cast of Dreamgirls performing some songs from that Tony Award-winning musical before they rush off to that night’s performance at the Curran Theater. Dreamgirls tells the story of an up-and-coming, 1960s singing girl-group and the triumphs and tribulations that come with fame and fortune. The cast features American Idol’s Syesha Mercado as Deena Jones, Adrienne Warren as Lorrell Robinson, and Margaret Hoffman as Michelle Morris.
The Dreamgirls will perform at 6:30 p.m. before the live auction starts at 7 p.m. General admission is $100 per person. Proceeds benefit the UCSF AIDS Health Project, a program of the UCSF Department of Psychiatry and the UCSF-affiliated San Francisco General Hospital.
Founded in the early days of the epidemic, the UCSF AIDS Health Project provides culturally sensitive counseling and education to stop the spread of HIV infection, and to help people face the emotional, psychological and social challenges of living with HIV disease.
