UCSF Raises Nearly $44,000 in AIDS Walk San Francisco
The UCSF coalition of 17 teams has raised nearly $44,000 so far in AIDS Walk San Francisco, according to preliminary results reported by AIDS Walk San Francisco.
This year, 310 walkers who are affiliated with UCSF registered for the event on July 18.
Members of the UCSF community joined an estimated 25,000 other individuals who raised more than $3 million at the 24th Annual AIDS Walk San Francisco. These funds will help the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and 59 other Bay Area AIDS service organizations, including some programs at UCSF, continue working to end AIDS in the community.
While the final results are yet to be tallied, UCSF’s top three fundraising teams in AIDS Walk San Francisco 2010 to date are: UCSF Global Health Sciences, UCSF School of Medicine and UCSF Fitness & Recreation Centers.

The group that raised the most money per person is the UCSF Global Health Sciences team, led by Robert Mansfield who also served on the UCSF AIDS Walk Steering Committee. Mansfield, who works on call on evenings and weekends for Macy’s, was able to participate in the retailer’s matching grants program for charities to help boost his teams fundraising totals.
UCSF Chancellor Sue Desmond-Hellmann, MD, MPH, on Tuesday presented the UCSF AIDS Walk trophy to Mansfield and several members of the UCSF Global Health Sciences team at a casual reception at the Mission Bay community center.
“The results show how dedicated the UCSF community is in supporting this event, with the spirited competition of all the teams reflected in the final totals,” Mansfield said. “Global Health Sciences will proudly display the trophy in the offices of our executive director at Laurel Heights.”

The UCSF AIDS Walk Steering Committee, co-chaired by Jennifer Mannix of Campus Life Services Arts and Events, and Lisa Cisneros, assistant director of UCSF Public Affairs, will announce individual winners of prizes once the final results are compiled.
“We want to thank our team captains for their leadership and dedication to the cause as well as the many walkers, volunteers and committee members for once again showing that UCSF cares about our community,” Cisneros says.
