Executive Budget Committee Approves Principles, Appoints Work Groups
The UCSF Executive Budget Committee has approved principles and guidelines to govern budget cuts, cost savings and revenue enhancements, and has appointed three work groups to make recommendations on the budget, according to Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Eugene Washington, MD.

The Executive Budget Committee, responding to the Chancellor’s December 2008 charge to create a three-year financial plan to address the serious budget challenges facing the campus, has taken several actions. First, the committee approved a set of principles to govern budget reductions, cost savings and revenue enhancements. Second, the committee created three work groups, which are advisory to the Executive Budget Committee and are charged with:

The Executive Budget Committee, responding to the Chancellor’s December 2008 charge to create a three-year financial plan to address the serious budget challenges facing the campus, has taken several actions. - Reviewing specific areas related to the financial crisis
- Recommending options for cost reductions, revenue enhancements or strategic realignment of resources
Work Groups
The three work groups began meeting in early February and are anticipated to meet through June 2009. The chairs of each work group will regularly report to the Executive Budget Committee on their work groups’ progress and recommendations. The work groups, their co-chairs and their areas of focus are:- Work Group on Academic and Clinical Program Efficiencies, co-chaired by David Gardner, chair of the UCSF Academic Senate, and Sam Hawgood, interim dean of the School of Medicine. This group is charged with exploring and recommending academic and clinical program efficiency options. Members of this work group and additional information about their charge can be found here.
- Work Group on Administrative and Business Efficiencies, co-chaired by Mark Laret, chief executive officer of UCSF Medical Center, and Randy Lopez, interim vice chancellor of Finance & Administration. - Work Group on Revenue Generation and Innovation, co-chaired by John Featherstone, dean of the School of Dentistry, and Mary Anne Koda-Kimble, dean of the School of Pharmacy.
