Society of General Internal Medicine Names Feldman as Editor
The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) has named Mitchell Feldman, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at UCSF, as the next co-editor of the Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM).
Feldman will serve the five-year appointment with Richard Kravitz, MD, as co-editor of JGIM, the official peer-reviewed scientific publication of SGIM.
JGIM promotes improved patient care, research and education in primary care, general internal medicine and hospital medicine. The publication focuses on topics such as clinical medicine, epidemiology, prevention, health care delivery, curriculum development and numerous other nontraditional themes.
Feldman holds a number of leadership positions at UCSF, including being named the first director of the UCSF Faculty Mentoring Program, co-director of the Mentoring Development Program of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and associate director of the Pathway to Discovery in Health and Society program in the UCSF School of Medicine.
Feldman also serves as an expert scientific consultant for health technology to the Blue Shield of California Foundation.
Feldman’s research focuses on psychiatric and behavioral issues in medical patients. He is co-investigator of a multicenter clinical trial examining the influence of medical patient requests on physician behavior in the detection and treatment of depression.
A member of SGIM for nearly 20 years, Feldman has served as president of the California/Hawaii region from 2000 to 2003 as well as in other leadership posts.
SGIM is a member-based, international association of almost 3,000 of the world’s leading general internists, who are dedicated to improving access to care for vulnerable populations, eliminating health care disparities and enhancing medical education.
