UC Police Report Robbery near Alabama and Mariposa Streets

A UCSF student was robbed of her personal belongings in the area of Alabama Street and Mariposa Street on July 8 at about 6:30 p.m. The site was two blocks away from the UCSF Mission Center Building (MCB), located at 1855 Folsom St. The victim had just left the MCB area after exiting the UCSF shuttle and was walking alone. She was robbed by two African American females armed with a knife. The suspects took the victim’s personal belongings and fled the scene in a 1991 four-door, yellow Pontiac (license no. 2USF393). As of Aug. 1, the vehicle has not been located. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Sergeant Luke Martin of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) at 415/553-1203. In an effort to provide timely crime updates to UCSF students, faculty and staff, the UCSF Police Department encourages the immediate reporting of crimes. If you have been the victim of a crime reported to the SFPD, it’s encouraged, when practicable, to notify the UCSF PD. The prompt reporting of crimes to the UCSF Police Department will ensure a timely alert to the campus community of potential crime trends occurring near UCSF facilities and in the UCSF neighborhood. Personal Safety Tips Suspects look for crimes of opportunity, and certain personal safety measures can be followed to minimize your chances of becoming a victim. These are: 1. Travel in groups whenever possible, especially at night. 2. Avoid poorly lit or deserted areas when walking at night. 3. Make use of the shuttle and escort services. 4. Stay alert to your surroundings. Avoid headphones and cell phone use when walking alone. 5. Do not stop in response to conversation starters (e.g., asking for time or directions). 6. If you feel you are being followed, go into an open business and ask for help. 7. Keep emergency numbers pre-programmed into your cell phone. 8. If you are faced with demands for your money or property, especially from an armed subject, comply with their demands for the sake of your safety.
