New Web Portal Showcases UCSF Life

UCSF launched a new web portal that aims to show current and future employees how they can discover, achieve, nurture and bloom as members of the campus community. A collaboration between UCSF Human Resources, UCSF Medical Center Human Resources and Campus Life Services recently resulted in the launch of a UCSF life web portal. Existing medical center and campus employees and potential job seekers will find an easy-to-use gateway to information that’s relevant to their professional and personal pursuits. Rather than taking a formal approach to telling the “UCSF story,” visitors can browse through categories such as discover, achieve, nurture and bloom. “Through the UCSF life portal, the campus, medical center and Campus Life Services can articulate the unique and comprehensive advantages of belonging to the UCSF community,” says Monica Mapa, communications and marketing strategist for Campus Life Services. “This will streamline the recruitment and retention process for both institutions.” The web portal provides quick access for job seekers who may be unaware of the diversity and availability of nonacademic career positions on campus, as well as career opportunities, training and education, employee recognition programs, and resources available for medical center staff and health care professionals. The medical center and campus Human Resources leaders helped frame the goals of the web portal, based on insights and feedback from their respective staff, stakeholders and recruitment candidates. Campus Life Services played a central role in facilitating this collaboration and in providing the creative direction, design and project management of the web portal. The UCSF life web portal also makes available information on staff assistance programs, family support, recreation, community building, and various enrichment programs and resources provided by UCSF departments, including Campus Life Services, that are working individually and in partnerships to create a supportive work environment. Many programs are exclusively available at UCSF and help to distinguish UCSF as the employer and institution of choice. Promoting a supportive work environment is one of seven major priorities identified in the UCSF Strategic Plan, which was released in June 2007. The plan specifically calls on the University to “provide a supportive and effective work environment to attract and retain the best people and position UCSF for the future.” More information about the strategic plan is available here. Anyone considering UCSF as a potential employer or interested in learning more about benefits packages or the various aspects of daily life at UCSF can visit the UCSF life web portal at jobs.ucsf.edu.
