UCSF to Host Safety Fairs Beginning Sept. 10

The UCSF Police Department is hosting the seventh annual safety fairs in September and October as part of National Preparedness Month and National Crime Prevention Month. The campus community and the public at large are invited to learn lifesaving tips from UCSF Police officers and to enjoy entertainment during the two upcoming fairs, slated to run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on: • Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Saunders Court at the Parnassus campus and • Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Koret Quad, Mission Bay campus This year’s safety fairs, which are themed “Safety Jam,” will also feature live music and giveaways. The fairs provide an opportunity for the Police Department to reach out to the UCSF community and provide faculty, staff, students and trainees with personal safety tools and information regarding the services provided by the Police Department. In addition, the fairs will give the public a chance to find out more from UCSF Police Department personnel and others on campus about the wide range of services available at the University. For example, fairgoers can learn from UCSF’s Enterprise Information Security experts how to better safeguard computer and data security and protect the privacy of UCSF patients. UCSF is making a concerted effort this year to communicate the simple steps every individual can take to ensure that sensitive information is safeguarded. On the lighter side, the safety fairs will feature the chief of police at UC Hastings College of the Law, who will entertain the crowds as an Elvis impersonator. Fairgoers will be able to watch Elvis dance to the Safety Jam as they visit vendor booths, where they can pick up informational brochures and giveaways. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to campus to receive a fingerprint kit and have their photos taken with McGruff the Crime Dog.
