UCSF to Host Earth Fest, Bike to Work Day on May 15

UCSF will host its Fourth Annual Earth Fest on Thursday, May 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Parnassus campus.

The event will be held in the Millberry Union Gymnasium, where 60 nonprofit groups and environmentally responsible businesses will offer information and sell their goods and services. The event is free and open to the public. Earth Fest coincides with Bike to Work Day, when faculty, staff and students are encouraged to leave their cars at home in favor of bicycles. UCSF's Earth Fest 2008 will offer information on topics including:
  • green building material choices
  • non-toxic cleaning products
  • health and beauty products
  • electronics recycling
  • earth friendly gift items
  • organic foods
  • alternative fuel vehicles.
This year, UCSF is taking greater steps to reduce its impact on the environment. On Earth Day on April 22, Chancellor Mike Bishop, MD, announced the formation of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS). The CACS will examine UCSF's effect on the environment, evaluate and propose policies and programs, as well as coordinate the actions of groups and individuals who are concerned about the environment.
