Pioneer in Asian American Mental Health Visits UCSF During Diversity Celebration

The Department of Psychiatry recently hosted Stanley Sue, PhD, as the third annual Evelyn Lee Visiting Scholar on Cultural Competence and Diversity. Sue's visit to UCSF was part of the annual diversity celebration. Sue is considered a pioneer in Asian American mental health. Over his 30-year career, he has been tapped for numerous federal positions and is his research highly regarded. His research interests include ethnic and cross-cultural influences on behavior. A recognized clinician, Sue is distinguished professor of psychology and Asian American studies at UC Davis. Among his many awards is the California Psychological Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Evelyn Lee, EdD, LCSW, was a clinical professor in the UCSF Department of Psychiatry until she passed away in 2003. Like Sue, Lee was a leader in the mental health field, joining San Francisco General Hospital's Asian Focus Psychiatric Inpatient Unit in 1982.
