Media invited to UCSF Firefly Project on May 31
WHAT: The Firefly Project is a free event that features a live reading of letters composed this year by critically ill patients and their healthy teenage pen pals.
During the school year, the pen pals correspond with one another in letters written in long-hand. The results are dramatic, often emotionally-charged letters as adults tell stories of their struggles, their hopes and fears, while students learn what it feels like to cope with a serious illness. Bridges are built and friendships are created, as students open up about their own lives and feelings about their future.
WHO: Participants include adult patients coping with life-threatening illnesses, such as AIDS and cancer, and middle and high school students who attend Marin County schools.
The Firefly Project is a project of Art for Recovery, a program of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, San Francisco.
