"Women, Poverty and HIV" is focus

The UCSF Women’s Global Health Imperative (WGHI) will sponsor a special briefing on March 8 on the importance of incorporating measures to address both poverty and gender inequities into efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

“Women, poverty and HIV are inextricably linked in developing countries. Economics and issues of gender must be taken into account for health interventions to succeed,” said Nancy Padian, PhD, director of WGHI who also is director of international programs for the UCSF AIDS Research Institute and associate director of research for UCSF Global Health Sciences.

The UCSF WGHI is a program of the AIDS Research Institute, Center for Excellence in Women’s Health, Center for Reproductive Health Research and Policy, and Global Health Sciences.
