Media briefing on Wednesday, June 23, will preview XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok

A UCSF AIDS Research Institute (ARI) news briefing in advance of the XV International AIDS Conference will take place next Wednesday, June 23.

More than 100 UCSF ARI scientists are expected to present research findings at the international meeting, July 11th to 16th in Bangkok, Thailand.

The UCSF ARI briefing will include overviews of key issues expected in Bangkok by leading researchers, short summaries by UCSF scientists about their presentations and studies published in conjunction with the conference. An additional conference room has been reserved for individual interviews with scientists during and after the briefing. Television crews are welcome to set-up in this room for interviews.

## UCSF ARI Briefing for Local Media is Scheduled as follows:

* Date: Wednesday, June 23
* Time: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
* Location: The Gladstone Institute for Virology and Immunology, 5th Floor Conference Room, Building 3 on the San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center campus. Enter from 22nd Street—Bldg. 3 is at the south end of the main hospital.

(Street Parking: During business hours, the 4-block area surrounding SFGHMC is zoned for 1-2-hour metered parking only. Nearby Parking Lots: The SFGHMC Visitors Parking Lot located at the entrance to SFGH on 23rd Street and the SFGHMC garage located at 24th and Utah Streets.)

* “Overview”—Warner Greene, MD, PhD, director of the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology, and UCSF professor of medicine, microbiology, and immunology.

* 9:25 to 9:45 a.m.
* The Easy CD4 Test”—Barry M. Bredt, MA, laboratory core director at UCSF’s General Clinical Research Center at San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center.

* “Negative HIV Antibody Tests Among Individuals Treated with Antiretroviral Therapy During Acute/Early Infection”—C. Bradley Hare, MD, UCSF assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCSF’s Positive Health Program at SFGHMC.

* “Scaling Up Treatment in the Developing World”—Diane Havlir, MD, division chief and director of UCSF’s Positive Health Program at San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center.

* “The Explore Study”—Grant Colfax, MD, principal investigator in the HIV Research Section of the AIDS Office at the San Francisco Department of Public Health and UCSF assistant clinical professor of medicine.
