1,800 San Francisco teachers invited to huge UCSF lab supplies give-away

When UCSF faculty moved their laboratories from the UCSF Parnassus campus to the new UCSF Mission Bay campus earlier this year, they earmarked surplus equipment and supplies for public schools. Letters have now been sent to all public schools in San Francisco inviting 1,800 teachers to a campus parking lot for one of the largest lab supplies give-aways ever offered by UCSF.

Donated items will be on view and available to be taken away at the Woods Building parking lot on the Parnassus campus on Saturday, Nov. 1, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Supplies include test tubes, laboratory water baths, boxes of plastic gloves, microscopes, laboratory glassware, centrifuges and much more.

“We have a huge number of donations,” says Patricia Caldera, UCSF academic coordinator in the Science and Health Education Partnership. “We think that hundreds of teachers will show up, so we’re working hard to have everything ready.”

Caldera will be available at the sign-in table on-site to answer questions from the press.
