MEDIA ADVISORY: UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute’s (CHORI) 37th Annual Summer Student Research Program Concludes with Summer Student Symposium

What: Close to 50 high school and undergraduate students who spent their summer vacations doing laboratory and clinical research alongside UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland doctors and CHORI scientists are presenting their research at a scientific symposium at CHORI on Friday, August 10

Now in its 37th year, the CHORI Summer Student Program pairs students interested in biomedical and other health-related research with world class scientists and doctors for intensive, hands-on research including stem cells, obesity, diabetes, and sickle cell anemia.

Why: The CHORI Summer Student Program is committed to increasing diversity in STEM and health-related research. It has been funded in part by National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants to increase diversity in research for the last 37 years (see other contributors below). The program is co-directed by Dr. Bertram Lubin, Associate Dean of Children’s Health for UCSF Health and Ellen Fung, PhD, Director, Bone Density Clinic at CHORI.
